B.C. Building Code is changing to BCBC 2024 on March 8th, 2024.

It is worth mentioning that the BC Building Code is updating to BCBC 2024 on March 8th, 2024.

In terms of work, this will mean engineering design review may take longer as it is now required to have an independent review of all designs by another registered Engineer for all projects.

Some changes from the Government of B.C. website include:

National Code changes incorporated into BC Building Code 2024:

  • Enabling mass timber construction
  • Requiring rough-ins for radon safety province-wide

BC-specific changes effective March 2024:

  • More complete and specific language for constructing extended rough-ins for radon subfloor depressurization systems
  • Adopting cooling requirements to provide one living space that does not exceed 26 degrees Celsius
  • Retaining existing ventilation requirements for systems serving single-dwelling units
